Holy Freakin' Roadtrip, Batman.

So we've traveled over 700 miles in the past week, and we had a BLAST.

First we went "up north" to Canjilon, New Mexico, to visit some of Louie's family and Alberto's grave.  Something about that mountain air does a soul good.  I think Louie was so fortunate to have grown up in such a beautiful area.

There's a little church in front of the graveyard that has the coolest hand carved sculpture of Jesus and Mary.  Louie told me a story to go with it - apparently when he was a small child, everyone participated in "Penetentes", where they would cause physical harm to their bodies with barbs and whips for the few days leading up to Easter each year, and it all took place at this little church near the graveyard.  It terrified him as a child, seeing these grownups literally mame themselves during this event.  Maybe next year I can actually get down from the car to get a better shot...

Finally, these cliffs inspired one Georgia O'Keefe to paint them from a spot near the Ghost Ranch...

Aren't the colors amazing?  No wonder she was so inspired.  Anyway, we ended up coming home and resting before we went "down south" to beautiful downtown Carlsbad, New Mexico to see the caverns.

Guess who FORGOT HER FREAKING CAMERA in the car.  YEP!  I'll post more about that trip shortly.  Part Deux coming soon...
